Deseret News recently reported that Provo alums Imagine Dragons and Neon Trees will be returning to Provo on April 29th for an intimate acoustic show. The show will be held at Velour Live Music Gallery to help raise money for Velour owner Corey Fox, who is in need of a kidney transplant.
Both bands have received international attention and widespread critical acclaim. In 2014, Imagine Dragons won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance. They also had the #1 most-streamed album on Spotify in 2013. Neon Trees has had several songs go Platinum – some multiple times. These songs include 2010’s “Animal” and 2011’s “Everybody Talks.” Their song “Sleeping With A Friend” was certified Gold in 2014. This is the first time Neon Trees and Imagine Dragons have shared the stage together – and this historic moment is happening in Provo, UT.
Fictionist and The Moth & The Flame will also unite at Velour the next night – April 30th. The Moth & The Flame has been making waves with their full-length album Young & Unafraid. To date, the breakthrough title track has been streamed over 3 million times on Spotify alone.
Since Fox went public with his disease in late March, there has been an overwhelming community response. On April 9th, 2016 Velour Live Music Gallery posted the following to their official Facebook page: “The Transplant Clinic has reported they have seen an incredible outpouring of support to find Corey a living kidney donor! Warm thank you’s to all who have inquired during the last week. However, the clinic needs to be able to focus on screening the current batch of applicants, and the size of that group is so overwhelming they have requested we graciously ask Corey’s friends to refrain from applying further, until they let us know there is a need for more.”
With the option of donating a kidney off the table, the community has taken to fundraising to show their support. Today, tickets to the Imagine Dragons/Neon Trees concert will be available for purchase between 2PM and 5PM. Lines will begin forming at 12PM. Tickets are available in exchange for a $300 cash donation to the #FixTheFox donation fund. With a limit of four tickets per customer, they’ll be given on a first come, first serve basis.
“This is a personal passion project of both our bands, and the evening will be intimate and special for all fans and friends,” says Neon Trees. All bands involved have shared their support for Fox via social media.
Fox has played an important role in the careers of many aspiring Provo artists. In addition to providing a space for bands to perform, Fox has also worked as an art director and production designer for music videos and television programs like BYUtv’s Audio Files. Fox helped co-write and direct Imagine Dragons’ “On Top Of The World” music video alongside filmmaker Matt Eastin. “This may initially come across as just a fun pop music video, but for those that are willing to dig a bit, there are many layers and secrets to find. This video is dedicated to the genius of Stanley Kubrick, the year 1969, and for conspiracy theorists everywhere,” says Fox.
You can watch the music video for “On Top Of The World” below. Make sure to stop by Velour Live Music Gallery at 12PM today to get your tickets. The show is expected to sell out. Imagine Dragons and Neon Trees will perform Friday, April 29th. Doors open at 8PM. There will be a pre-show sidewalk party for patrons from 6-8PM. For more information, visit KidneyForCoreyFox.com
