Non-Utah Indies We Dig: “accident” by McCloud

Good ole fashioned melodic rock music made by dads.

With so much music in the Provo music scene, it’s easy to get sucked in and start listening to music in a bubble. It’s always great to see what awaits you in the broader world of sonic textures, and to find new recommendations that can inspire you to make music differently than you did before.

McCloud hails from New Orleans and describes themselves as “Good ole fashioned melodic rock music made by dads.” While I believe that description is 100% factual, I’d also like to add that today’s pick – “accident” – sounds like an Aaron West and The Roaring Twenties song covered by an angsty version of Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody.

Considering the fact that I love both of those groups deeply, you’ll understand why McCloud is quickly becoming one of my favorite new bands.

I’d like to point out that as the founder of a magazine myself, I take issue with the opening line, where McCloud tells listeners not to renew their magazine subscriptions. The band even has the audacity to double down on the magazine boycott before the last chorus.

Despite this, the breakdown at 1:45 goes so hard I’m about to cancel my entire publication in support of McCloud.

I don’t know how to provide a better endorsement than that.

Make sure to follow McCloud on Instagram and check out “accident” below.
