With so much music in the Provo music scene, it’s easy to get sucked in and start listening to music in a bubble. It’s always great to see what awaits you in the broader world of sonic textures, and to find new recommendations that can inspire you to make music differently than you did before.

Today’s pick is “Insane” by Riley Polanksi. This dude’s voice is STELLAR. It’s super reminiscent of Shawn Mendes, and definitely fits the modern bedroom pop/TikTok music vibe. Opening with a cozy, lofi, stripped down sound, the song eventually drops into an anthem and goes way harder than it needs to. But you’ll be so glad it does.

As a songwriter, Polanski shows a masterful amount of restraint. The acoustic arrangement is simple and steady, but he adds tension and intrigue by slowly building subtle doubles and harmonies under ethereal, swirling synths before that satisfactory drop.
