Following a stellar performance at Downtown Provo’s Rooftop Concert Series earlier this month, The Aces (formerly The Blue Aces) have released a new single. “Stuck” finds the band expanding their sound, taking it inย dancierย new directions. Bassist McKenna Petty and guitarist Katie Henderson exchange funky rhythms over the top of solid, straight beats from drummer Alisa Ramirez. Lead singer Cristal Ramirez has never sounded so good – the reverb on her vocals adding shimmer to her warm, raspyย voice.
It’s exciting to see the band puttingย out new material. While they teased us last December with their rendition of “O Holy Night” on BYUtv’s Audio Files, the band hasn’t had a proper release since 2014’s Gave You My Heart. This song is ambitious and bold without trying too hard – taking risks without completely rebootingย The Aces’ signature sound. You’ll still find their raw, youthful energy and beautiful harmonies on the new track.
“Stuck” made its debut today exclusively on Nylon.com. Nylon is an international fashion and pop culture magazine that prints hundreds of thousands of issues monthly. Nylon has partnered with Provo musicians in the past, as Neon Trees was part of Nylon’s Summer Music Tour in 2012. You can hear “Stuck” online here.
UPDATE: “Stuck” is now available on Spotify.
