Provo Artists Gear Up For Splash Fest

Provo musicians will spend a day in the sun performing tomorrow at Seven Peaks Salt Lake.

By Mike Romero

Tomorrow, several Provo musicians will join national headliners Nico & Vinz for a day long music festival at Seven Peaks in Salt Lake City, UT. Provo artists include Mimi Knowles, Jamesthemormon, Jenn Blosil, and Static Waves.

There’s a lot of hype surrounding Mimi Knowles this summer. Since his return to his big band setup, it appears Knowles has caught a second wind of sorts. In the last two months, he’s released three new cover videos (A mashup of Lukas Graham’s “7 Years” and James Bay’s “Let It Go”; “Hotline Bling;” and “Jay Z vs Kanye”), performed at May’s Rooftop Concert Series, and opened for 2 Chainz. Knowles also announced via Facebook that he and his band will be “dropping content every week this summer.” Knowles has plans to release a new video every Monday. Accompanying this big content push are performances at both Splash Fest and Goosenecks Music Festival in Torrey, Utah this August (read more about it here).

Jamesthemormon has had quite the year, and it’s only half way done. His latest EP, I Am Not A Rapper, saw impressive chart success and his latest single, “Treasure,” ruffled some feathers in light of Tyler Glenn’s controversial music video release. JTM has been featured heavily on radio shows, news outlets, and blogs for the last two months, and he recently opened for Rich Homie Quan at The Madison in downtown Provo.

Jenn Blosil

Jenn Blosil is a former American Idol contestant who has received consistent praise for her unique vocal style – present in both her wildly successful Mormon-youth-oriented “Take it Home” and her nearly-viral cover of “The Hanging Tree” from The Hunger Games franchise.

Static Waves’ first EP received a positive review earlier this year. Last year, they performed at Downtown Provo’s Rooftop Concert Series alongside rising stars The Moth & The Flame. Like Mimi Knowles, Static Waves will also be performing at Goosenecks Music Festival this August.

Other performers include Salt Lake City’s Rap Game Ryan and Brogan Kelby; J Quiles, Kenny Holland, EMRSN, COMMIX & MADSON, Poe Leos, and K Layt. Live performances run from 10AM to 7:30PM tomorrow at Seven Peaks Water Park Salt Lake. Tickets are available online here. Check out “Jay Z vs Kanye” by Mimi Knowles below.
