Muse Music is Provo’s oldest all ages venue, and is known for major events like its annual Songwriter Showdown, as well as its continued support of Provo’s alternative genres. As of today, submissions are now open for Muse Music’s annual Battle of the Bands. Previous winners of the competition include Ryan Innes, Mimi Knowles, Eidola, The Ladells, and last year’s winner, TRY TRY TRY.
“Muse’s Battle of the Bands is about community,” says venue owner Darcie Roy. “Our goal is to bring together bands that may not be familiar with each other’s work to make new connections within the Utah music scene.” Muse’s 2016 Songwriter Showdown had the same aims. Participants like The Real Doug Lane, Michael Barrow, Paul Travis, and Andrew Wiscombe have gone on to book shows together. Lane and Wiscombe, both military, even teamed up to write music for a benefit album for veterans.
All genres of music are welcome to apply for a spot in the competition. A band must consist of at least 2 members and be available every night of the battle. Acts will be judged on musicianship, songwriting, performance, professionalism, promotions/marketing, and attendance.
Qualifying rounds will be held from October 18th through October 21st, with one band from each night moving on to the finals. The final round will be held on Saturday, October 22nd. All entrants will receive free admission for the whole week. A cash prize and prizes from local sponsors will be awarded to the winner.
To participate, submit an email to BOTB@musemusiccafe.com by midnight on September 30th, 2016. The email should include “BOTB Entry” as the subject line, your band name, a short bio, links to recordings or videos of your music, links to your social media, and a description of why you want to participate in this year’s battle.
