Alex Vaughn. Corey Fox. Paul Nahrwold. Dean Cheesman. These four supernatural individuals collectively had a nightmare four years ago – one in which the sun went down on Happy Valley only for the moon to rise on a haunted hellscape crawling with costumed musicians and concertgoers in a spooky music festival Provo had never seen before.
Buzzards & Bees has been going strong ever since. Utah’s only Halloween-themed music festival, it consists of two events.
Goth Prom
Friday, October 21 is Goth Prom – a dance party at Velour Live Music Gallery where attendees come dressed as their most depressing selves to have the time of their lives. With music provided by DJ KiD MACHiNE and DJ Black Mass, it’s an excellent event to kick off the weekend. The best-dressed Goth Prom King & Queen will win free tickets to a secret show. Tickets are $10 at the door. The party starts at 8 PM.
Music Festival
On Saturday, October 22, Downtown Provo will come alive at 10 different venues featuring over 70 local artists. Additional festivities include street performers, a costume contest, a mask-making station, spooky story-telling, and more. One ticket gets you in to all 10 venues. It’s one of the busiest single nights of the year for Provo music. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 the day of the show. Get yours here.
Artists at each venue share common genres. Venues participating in this year’s music festival include Boothe Music (Folk Rock/Americana), Peace On Earth Coffee (Singer/Songwriter), Platinum Music (Rock/Indie0, ABG’s Bar (Alt Rock/Hip Hop), Java Junkie (Indie/Pop-Rock), The Social (Dream-Pop), Velour Live Music Gallery (Rock/Indie), Quiero Mas (Soul/Pop), the A-Frame Church on University Avenue (Pop-Rock/Indie), and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church (Chamber Pop).
Remember to check-in at Goth Prom at Velour (135 N University Ave) on Friday night OR Enliten Bakery (43 E Center St) on Saturday to exchange your ticket for your festival wristband. This wristband gets you into every show at every venue.
