This review is my petition to make Elevator Music by Antelope Island the designated elevator music in all elevators in Utah. To convince you of this, I shall tell you my favorite elevator story.

There is an elevator in the Student Athlete Building (SAB) on the BYU campus. If you are unfamiliar where this is, it’s the building across from the Smith Fieldhouse that houses the BYU Football weight room and is adjacent to their outdoor practice field. This elevator is the slowest elevator to ever be made. The building is only three stories but the elevator is so slow that if you missed it, you would easily save a couple minutes by taking the stairs.
For everyone who doesn’t know, I swam on the BYU swim team during my time there. During my junior year, we had two freshmen men on the team that were inseparable. Like Bert & Ernie but if both were 6’3″ and they were even more in love. To maintain their anonymity, I’ll call them Connor and Murph.

One night, while leaving the SAB, Connor and Murph had an idea. They were going to see if they could strip down to their underwear and switch clothes by the time the elevator reached the first floor.
Now, did they achieve this feat? If I take them at their word, then yes. But it was admittedly a close call. However, I believe something else happened that night. That halfway through their journey from the third to the first floor, someone stopped to get on at the seldom-used second floor, and they were caught with their pants down, literally. Because that’s life.

Elevator Music reminds me of those two guys. Everything about it reminds me of them. It’s the perfect soundtrack to their shenanigans, their love for each other, and their love of life.
The synth used throughout this EP is the reason I assume it got its name. It’s an absolute delight. I’d listen to an entire album of those synth sounds featuring Kenny G because that would be the sexiest combination anyone could think of.
To anyone who will listen, I love to describe Antelope Island as Utah’s own Wallows. Since the release of Elevator Music, Antelope Island has released a single, “Friends Suck,” and I can’t wait to see what they do next.
