Album Review: Walk Away by Cayson Renshaw

This album was all I could think of when I first heard it, and my close friends have heard me talk about it nonstop.

I first heard Cayson Renshaw sing when I listened to the song โ€œPeace in Christ” from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I immediately loved the song, and I loved Renshawโ€™s voice. His voice sounded authentic and relatable, and helped me to internalize the message the song was delivering. I was excited to learn that he has continued to sing and write music โ€“ most of it secular.

His EP, Walk Away, was a pleasure to listen to and shows Renshaw’s growth as a musician. He has released a few songs since releasing this album, but I wanted to go back to this EP first. It really left an impression on me.ย

This was a short, five-song record, but I loved each song. The album art captures the feel of this album perfectly. It feels like watching a sunrise on a cold spring morning, with the sun slowly warming your body and the world around it. This is the type of album that I would listen to in the morning to start my day with happy vibes, and I would listen to it in the evening to chill out before going to sleep. Overall, I am a huge fan.

My favorite song from the record was โ€œI Know You.โ€ About this song, Renshaw said, โ€œI actually was thinking about my relationship with God as I wrote this, but Iโ€™m also super grateful for the family and friends that are there for me in the rain or the sunshine.โ€ This song provides hope that when we feel alone there is at least one person that knows how we are feeling. Whether that be God or a close friend or family member, that person is there to comfort us when we feel down. And they’ll rejoice when things are going great. Renshaw did a great job of conveying that feeling of unity through this song.ย

Another great song from the record is โ€œHard to Find.โ€ It is a classic love song. Itโ€™s a beautiful tribute to the bond that is made between two lovers that have worked hard for their relationship. The song is simple, but it conveys its message clearly. It’s beautiful.

In conclusion, I would recommend this album to anyone. In fact, I have recommended this album to a lot of people. It was all I could think of when I first heard it, and my close friends have heard me talk about it nonstop. Renshaw just keeps getting better, and I am excited to follow the rest of his career.ย
