With so much music in the Provo music scene, it’s easy to get sucked in and start listening to music in a bubble. It’s always great to see what awaits you in the broader world of sonic textures, and to find new recommendations that can inspire you to make music differently than you did before.
Today’s pick is really cool. Hailing from the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in South Carolina, Warren Garrett makes hard hitting country rock that incorporates elements of Nu Metal.
His March 8th single “Let Me Go” is a sexy anthem with really interesting harmonic choices in the chord progression. We particularly loved the electronic elements that came in at 0:53 after the chorus – it was a nice touch. The track also has a super tasty guitar solo that adds to the experience without stealing the show.
Garrett’s vocals also deserve praise. He nails the classic country rock sound. The drawl is heavy, the grit is thick, and he can belt like the best of them. He has a remarkable amount of vocal control. There’s no reason he can’t be a massive success. I’m not normally a country fan, but I’m happy to say I’m in on this artist first.
