With so much music in the Provo music scene, itโs easy to get sucked in and start listening to music in a bubble. Itโs always great to see what awaits you in the broader world of sonic textures, and to find new recommendations that can inspire you to make music differently than you did before.
Every so often you find a group with the perfect band name: it’s memorable, fits the music, and tells you everything you need to know about the band before you ever press play. Highway Natives is that band name for me. These guys from Nashville write groovy, soulful country music perfect for the wide open road and long hauls under blue sky and sunshine.
Recorded at the legendary FAME Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, it would fit perfectly on a Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack if it had dropped 50 years ago. It’s a 70s-inspired mix of country, funk, soul, and down home rock n’ roll that’ll please fans of Eagles, Allman Brothers Band, The Black Crowes, and Rascal Flatts.
It’s even got some dual-lead guitarmony at the song’s climax. Did you know that Hotel California’s parent company had begun franchising in Tennessee?
