Ladies and gentlemen and all others, have we got a show for you! For the first time in the new location, 3hive Record Lounge will be hosting live music! But that’s not all: they’re also showing they’re serious about keeping up the reputation for being tastemakers in the music community. This Friday, August 29, the record shop will host its first show featuring a band on tour all the way from Japan โ o’summer vacation!
o’summer vacation hails from Kobe, Japan, and is known for their eccentric and aggressive noise-punk sounds. The group has previously described themselves as “influenced by bands that sing with meaningless lyrics and onomatopoeia” and that “people from every country will hear the same when they are sad or happy.” The band is currently on tour around the United States with Vegas-based experimental jazz/r&b group Post NC and will also be joined in Provo by local groups Air Vent Dweller and Melancholy Club.

This show caps off a particularly busy summer for 3hive, as the record store has recently moved to a new location on Center Street (giving them the space to even host an event like this in the first place). Additionally, the shop recently hosted the first-ever Provo Music Scene Town Hall at the beginning of August. 3hive has always been the place to go as a music lover, and it’s clear they want the local scene to get just as much attention as the big names.
The show also shows off 3hive as an exciting new option for bands who may feel they don’t ‘fit’ the sound of other venues. One of the topics discussed in August’s Town Hall meeting was the need for spaces outside of the more mainstream genres โ especially after the closure of The Boardwalk in Orem โ and 3hive is looking to be a space where that openness can continue to thrive. This lineup spans a variety of genres, so there’s sure to be something to enjoy for everyone.
It’s not every day we get a touring group from Asia here in Provo, so be sure to make the most of it! Our little sound town is growing and becoming a part of the larger music industry, and you’ll want to say you got in on the ground floor. Tickets for Friday are available here, but are expected to sell out, so get them while you can! Follow 3hive and o’summer vacation on Instagram to keep in the loop!
