Another month has come and gone since our last town hall, where we, as Provo musicians, did our civic duty to gather together and discuss the happenings of the scene. May was a light month for attendance, which brings us straight to our first topic of discussion: changing the monthly town hall days.
The pitch is to move the meeting from the last Tuesday of the month to the last Wednesday of the month. It will still be held at 3hive Record Lounge at 8 PM. The reason being there are too many other events that occur on Tuesdays that prevent folks who would like to attend from coming. This is highlighted by the sparse attendance, as previously mentioned.

Owen gave an update on the community map (which shows which businesses accept posters/fliers). Provo is coming along nicely. He has asked for anyone who knows of any businesses that would be okay with hanging fliers to please reach out to be added to the map. He potentially will branch out to the greater Utah and Salt Lake Counties once Provo finishes. He has gotten feedback that Salt Lake-based bands have already started using the map to hang fliers for upcoming shows, so the usefulness of the map has already proven itself!
The second item of the agenda was originally going to be a presentation from Provo Music Magazine’s Publisher Zach Collier regarding legislation and working with Senator John Curtis, but he was unfortunately absent from this town hall to direct a music video. We hope to have him this for Juneโs town hall.

Our final presentation was from Ram Kalo. He discussed building free QR codes using the website: justaqrcode.com. Here you can put whatever website youโd like, change the colors, and download it โ completely free all thanks to a person named Gabe. Itโs pretty straightforward to use. Ram also discussed building a free website as a replacement for Linktree and other such sites. He has a walkthrough of that here: github.com/ramkalo/Linkinator. Ram has made a very generous offer to assist anyone who happens to need help with either building out a website or help with the QR code. He can be reached through his Instagram @ramkalomusic.ย
At the end of the day, it was a short but fulfilling meeting. We were small in number, but large in spirit. We have a great opportunity to come together as a scene and help make a change by being more organized. I look forward to meeting again in June.
In the meantime, make sure to follow 3hive Record Lounge on Instagram and check out “Timeless” from Always Her’s brand new album below.
