On Friday, May 6th 2016, Downtown Provo’s Rooftop Concert Series is returning to the intersection of Center Street and 100 West for a night of music. The community festival was founded by C. Jane Kendrick, Mindy Gledhill, Sarah Wiley, and Justin Hackworth in 2010 as an effort to attract more people to downtown Provo. Their efforts proved fruitful. Rooftop Concert Series is now a Provo staple, attracting hundreds of people to downtown Provo every month between the months of May and September. The event has become so large that it has outgrown its name. Instead of taking place on the roof of the parking garage by the former Sammy’s/Zeek’s location (now Marley’s Gourmet Sliders Jr.), Rooftop goes down outside of the Nu Skin headquarters on Center Street.
In the last seven years, Rooftop has hosted some huge names, including Neon Trees, Imagine Dragons, Mindy Gledhill, The Moth & The Flame, and Desert Noises. This year, Rooftop is welcoming back past performers The Strike (2014), Mimi Knowles (2014), and The Aces (2013 – formerly The Blue Aces) for a strong season opener. The Strike showed off all new material at Audio West last Wednesday (read more here) and should cause quite a stir with songs from their upcoming album. Mimi Knowles will be performing a full band set – complete with a live horn section – for the first time on the Rooftop stage, and The Aces have been building excitement for the release of a new single called “Stuck” after they recently put out a casting call for its upcoming music video.
May’s Rooftop Concert is sponsored by Provo City, Chatbooks, Google Fiber, and Nu Skin. The concert begins at 7:30 PM. Our live coverage of the event will begin at 5PM and run all evening. Make sure to like The Strike, Mimi Knowles, and The Aces on Facebook. You listen to the song “I Don’t Wanna Know” by The Aces below!
