Stephanie Mabey Releases New Single

“Heart-Shaped Hologram” is the lead single off of Mabey’s second solo record, due out this August.

Despite hopeful tracks like “Glorious,” the circumstances surrounding singer/songwriter Stephanie Mabey’s successful debut album, Wake Up Dreaming, were not ideal.

“Right after I released ‘The Zombie Song’ my life sort of changed. I went through a divorce, and was just in this new place of trying to figure out my life – trying to make it work,” said Mabey in January of 2015. “I didn’t know if I was going to be able to keep doing music.” [1]

While songs from the album were racking up hundreds of thousands of streams online, Mabey found herself retreating from a solo career in music to focus on herself. “I didn’t really know who I was as a person,” she said. “The last couple years have been me digging into that part of my life.” She branched out, meeting other musicians and collaborating with them on various projects, like Gusto with Taylor Hartley and Pixel Pony with Eric Robertson.

Success continued to follow Mabey during this part of her life. Gusto’s “Choose Your Own Adventure” was featured on Season 4, Episode 10 of MTV’s Snooki & JWOWW, and Mabey’s music video for “The Zombie Song” passed two million views. David Archuleta’s cover of “Glorious” was featured in the international release of the LDS Church’s Meet The Mormons documentary, and an accompanying social media campaign found hundreds of Mormon adherents uploading covers of Mabey’s song online.

Eventually, Mabey found herself writing solo music again. Last August, she returned to June Audio to work with producer Scott Wiley to track “I Still Taste Fire,” the song that would become the title track for her second solo outing.

Yesterday, Stephanie Mabey announced the release date for the I Still Taste Fire EP.  Her second record is due out on August 26th, 2016. Accompanying the announcement was the release of “Heart-Shaped Hologram,” the EP’s lead single. The song showcases beautiful growth in Mabey’s voice – a depth of character and emotion unseen on previous releases. The orchestration on the song is a wonderful blending of contemporary piano pop conventions, a punchy saxophone section, and electronic elements. If this track is any indication, I Still Taste Fire will be a brilliant return to form from Stephanie Mabey. We’re stoked to hear the EP in full.
