Since Wayne Mitchell originally opened Guitar Center in Hollywood, California in 1959, his store has grown to become one of the largest chains of musical instrument retailers in the world. Guitar Center currently has more than 270 locations in operation throughout the United States. Tonight, the chain’s newest location is opening in Orem, Utah after an official ribbon cutting ceremony. Orem Mayor Richard Brunst will be in attendance. The Grand Opening event will also feature live music, giveaways, and exclusive savings offers for attendees.
The new location is a state-of-the-art, 8,843 quare foot facility located at 64 E 1300 S. Home to a huge selection of instruments and equipment, Guitar Center also offers music lessons, on-site repairs, gear rentals, and free workshops. Guitar Center’s “Rock Show” program places participants into a band, runs them through lessons together, and ends with a concert in front of a live audience.
“From striking the first note to perfecting the craft, Guitar Center supports musicians while inspiring more people to discover the power of music,” said Guitar Center in their official press release for the event. Only 35% of Guitar Center locations nationwide are outfitted with the state-of-the-art music lesson facilities that the Orem location has. The store also offers free introductory classes and instruction on guitar, ukulele, and recording.
The Grand Opening event happens tonight, June 30th, at 7PM and will feature the funk/soul party band, Changing Lanes. Changing Lanes backed Alex Boye on Season 10 of America’s Got Talent and frequently features local performers like former American Idol contestant James VIII, Norbert Bueno, and Joshy Soul.
