One of my favorite things about living in Utah Valley is that nearly 1 and 4 people are incredibly musically gifted. Which means that new music is always being released from tons of new acts. Here are some of the releases we thought you should definitely know about.
Hecka Tight
Hecka Tight’s debut EP, Make Friday Night Right, is a collection of lo-fi indie-rock jams that are definitely groovy. Their lyrics are clever and really capture the nuances of our Utah Valley culture. “Let’s Get High (Waisted Pants)” and “Velcro Shoes” are extremely raw, upbeat, and personal favorites from this EP.
John Michael Marinos
John Michael Marinos’ new EP was released last month in January, and is an EP that you don’t want to miss. This EP is a compilation of acoustic ballads that speak to the heart. Marinos’ vocals are smooth and controlled, with just a hint of dirt to give the whole EP a Brett Dennen-esque type vibe. “I Got You Babe” is one of my favorites from the EP. The verses are well written and build into a groovy soulful chorus with bluesy guitar licks. Be sure to check it out on Bandcamp.
