Provo Music Company Featured On Variety.com

All the world’s a stage, and Provo has a starring role.

Today, Variety ran a story about famed playwright Andrew Lloyd Webber renewing his long-term partnership with musical theater licensing juggernaut Concord Theatricals. What appears to be standard Broadway/West End business actually has a surprising connection to the Provo music scene.

The president of Concord Theatricals, Bill Gaden, name dropped Right On Cue Services, a local music company whose recording studios and offices are right here in Provo. ROCS is a music production company that specializes in creating backing tracks and performance software for musical theater. They got their start in 2004 servicing local Utah theaters and now have thousands of clients in North America, Europe, South America, Asia, and Australia.

ROCS creates official backing tracks for Concord Theatricals. Their parent company, Concord Music Group, is a major force in the music industry. You’d be hard-pressed to find someone unfamiliar with their KidzBop franchise, for example. But they also represent prominent artists like IDKHow, Common, Elvis Costello, Pierce The Veil, and St. Vincent. They entered the musical theater space after a significant merger in 2018, when they purchased three prominent industry players: Rodgers & Hammerstein, Tams-Witmark, and Samuel French.

Since then, ROCS has recorded the scores of hundreds of Broadway musicals, from The Sound of Music and Footloose to American Psycho and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar. All of these tracks are recorded in their south Provo studio with Provo producers and instrumentalists and then distributed globally.

“We have recently worked with [Andrew Lloyd Webber’s] team on many exciting initiatives for the North American market,” said Bill Gaden. “Including… the continuing development of state-of-the-art tracks from Right On Cue Services. We look forward to carrying on the creation of cutting-edge resources for our customers.”

Props to ROCS for representing the Provo music scene on the world stage. Make sure to like Right On Cue Services on Facebook and check out their backing track for “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables” from Les Misérables below!
