Today, we want to highlight “DELUSION” by Edie Yvonne. At only 15, this Los Angeles indie pop songwriter is full of promise. The song opens with Foster The People vibes a la “Pumped Up Kicks.” However, the vocal melody, production, and harmonies sit somewhere between Olivia Rodrigo and Ava Max. It feels fresh and modern, and is an excellent fit for Edie Yvonne’s voice.

When the chorus drops around 45 seconds in, the song takes a really interesting turn. The guitars start strumming clean-but-chorusy whole note chords. This shifts the vibes from Foster The People to a very nostalgic, almost Fleetwood Mac or Beatles vibe. The drums keep the same pattern, but eventually shift the snare to quarter notes โ€“ a pattern found in vintage, driving rock. James Bay also uses it to great effect.

This is definitely worth a spin. If you like what you hear, follow Edie Yvonne on Instagram. You can hear the song below.
