With so much music in the Provo music scene, it’s easy to get sucked in and start listening to music in a bubble. It’s always great to see what awaits you in the broader world of sonic textures, and to find new recommendations that can inspire you to make music differently than you did before.
Provo bands like Drusky, Hollow Hill, and Lonely Heights have all incorporated emo into their music with a unique twist. North Carolina’s Ever Ending (stylized as “ever,ending”) does the same, but with a modern lofi bedroom sound that fills your ears with warmth despite the raw vocals and heavy guitars.
The vocal performance from Leo, the frontman, is pleasurably agonizing, conveying angst through effective vocal doubling that smooths out the rough edges and properly communicates a well-written and catchy melody. It’s reminiscent of Taking Back Sunday.
crawlenely, the featured female vocalist, shakes things up with a more refined and lovely vocal texture that sits in stark contrast to the vocals of the first verse. It’s a cool team up with interesting results. As a fan of alt rock and pop punk myself, I was really impressed by this song.
