With so much music in the Provo music scene, itโ€™s easy to get sucked in and start listening to music in a bubble. Itโ€™s always great to see what awaits you in the broader world of sonic textures, and to find new recommendations that can inspire you to make music differently than you did before.

Today’s pick is “Heat” by the Raleigh-based pop/rock quintet Galloway. And let me tell you, guys: Galloway is the whole package. Their music features incredibly polished pop production and SLAMMED drums with intricate fills galore. They’d be perfect on a bill with The Band CAMINO or Knox โ€“ without being a dead ringer for either.

The vocals come courtesy of frontman Lawson Galloway. They’re smooth without losing the sneer and swagger required to make this rock music. Complimenting the vocals nicely are the guitars, which oscillate between intricate high end licks and crunchy low end rumble โ€“ until the climax, that is. That’s when they really start to wail, bending strings and leaning into tension and dissonance before dropping into the chorus one last time.

This song is incredibly well mixed, well written, and masterfully delivered.
