The journey to five million streams begins with one song… or 100.

Bryson Jarrett, known as BRYSN, believes that anyone can do anything if they put their mind to it. At first glance, BRYSN is South Jordanโ€™s very own Troy Bolton. His introduction to music began rather unexpectedly during his senior year of high school. Despite being really into basketball and never doing singing or dancing or anything like that, BRYSNโ€™s best friend encouraged him to try out for their high schoolโ€™s musical. He ended up getting the lead in โ€œFootloose.โ€

โ€œI was like, oh [I] can sing,โ€ BRYSN said, โ€œAnd [I’m] actually kind of good at it.โ€ Realizing he enjoyed performing, he didnโ€™t slow down. BRYSN picked up a guitar and started writing his own music.ย โ€œIn 2019, I went through a divorce,โ€ he explained, โ€œand music is really what I turned to to get through thatโ€ฆ It was like my therapy.โ€

He released his first song in 2020 under his full name, releasing music for three years before trying a new approach. He realized that if he wasnโ€™t getting the results he wanted, maybe he just needed to put more time into his craft. โ€œIn 2023, I just went dark,โ€™ BRYSN said. Inspired by Michael Jackson once saying heโ€™d write a hundred songs for an album, BRYSN โ€œtook a whole year and wrote 100 songs.โ€

He started releasing music again in January of 2024 under his rebranded platform: BRYSN, planning to release a song every three weeks for a total of his top fifteen songs from the hundred that he wrote.

โ€œHereโ€™s whatโ€™s really cool about writing a hundred songs,โ€ BRYSN said, โ€œthe best ones just float to the top.โ€ Some songs have stuck around as a favorite since the beginning while others popped up in the last few songs. Not only did BRYSN write 100 songsโ€”he also produced all 100. Some are more pop or R&B, some are more country, some are more rock or alternative. Through this process, BRYSNโ€™s really been able to lean into finding his style, and promises that fans of Benson Boone, Olivia Rodrigo, and Justin Bieber will love his vibe.

In less than a year, BRYSNโ€™s gone from a brand-new project of less than a hundred followers to having over sixty-thousand fans on Instagram and nearly half that number of monthly listeners on Spotify. His goal is to reach five million streams a month, which is about two to three million monthly listeners.

Throughout his music journey, BRYSN says two of the biggest things that have helped him succeed are consistency and healing his fears.

On consistency, BRYSN commented, โ€œThereโ€™s two sides of being a musician these daysโ€”thereโ€™s music and then thereโ€™s marketing. You have to do both.โ€ He says he made a promise to himself: โ€œI did the 100 songs. These are the best songs I can giveโ€ฆ I know that without a doubt. Now, I have to stay consistent on social media.โ€ And he has. His 70th reel is what took him to 3000 followers. He wrote a song called โ€œMadison Beer,โ€ which got recognized by the singer herself at a concert attended by BRYSN. Just a few weeks ago, his song โ€œGhost,โ€ took off on Spotify, gaining him additional traction. โ€œThat was a proud moment,โ€ he said.

Aside from consistency, BRYSN said that to him, the other side of being a successful artist is taking care of your fears. โ€œIf you want to be successful in music, you need to eliminate any blocks inside yourself that are blocking you from getting where you want to go.โ€

“One wall for me was the fear of being seen,” BRYSN continued. “Another was not feeling good enough. I had to get rid of those, and immediate results have come from that.โ€

BRYSN talked to me about how recently, he went to a therapy session where he and his therapist got to the root of his struggle with self-esteem. โ€œIt was really cool… I wondered, ‘what will now be allowed to come into my life?’ I had this new space for more things to come in.โ€ The very next day, the National Parks chose him to participate in their mini battle of the bands for a chance to perform with them later this year. Although he wasnโ€™t chosen as the winner, this was BRYSNโ€™s first step back into the live music world after rebranding.

Because self-confidence is something BRYSN has struggled with his whole life, he wants to inspire others towards accomplishing their own dreams. His main message to his fans is found in his song โ€œSmallโ€: Thereโ€™s no dream too large and no person too small. โ€œThatโ€™s the message behind my music,โ€ BRYSN said. โ€œMy music is just a vehicle to instill that message on fans, family, kidsโ€ฆ you can do anything. Believe in yourself.โ€

Pursuing music isnโ€™t easy. In BRYSNโ€™s words, โ€œitโ€™s a really stupid thing to do.โ€ Youโ€™re taking a different path than everyone else, and itโ€™s a difficult, risky path. BRYSN keeps it real on social media, opening up about both his struggles and breakthroughs and invites others to stay on the journey with him. โ€œThe hardest part is believing in yourself when things outside arenโ€™t showing,โ€ BRYSN said. โ€œBut, if you love it, you have to do it, or youโ€™re going to regret never trying, and thatโ€™s worse than failing.โ€
