With so much music in the Provo music scene, itโs easy to get sucked in and start listening to music in a bubble. Itโs always great to see what awaits you in the broader world of sonic textures, and to find new recommendations that can inspire you to make music differently than you did before.
Here are five songs from indie artists across the country. Hopefully something here can help spark some new inspiration for you.
Helena Kletch โ โHey Megโ
This is such a great song. The intro isn’t too long and gets right into showcasing Helena’s beautiful voice. This track has beautiful lyrics and a really subtle-yet-effective arrangement that adds depth and building tension in the background. The incorporation of organ/synth in the second half of the first verse was great. And the harmonies in the chorus were MIND BENDING. So good.
The production of this song is equally impressive, striking a perfect balance between simplicity and sophistication. Every element feels intentional. This song doesnโt just showcase her vocal talentโitโs a masterclass in how to craft a track that resonates deeply and stays with you long after itโs over.
Steven Vizirov โ “La Jolla”
Steven Vizirov delivers an outstanding vocal performance on this track, blending his smooth falsetto with a rich, soulful chest voice that commands attention. His ability to shift effortlessly between the two adds emotional depth and showcases his impressive range. The melody feels both fresh and timeless, making it easy to connect with the song from the first listen.
This track is a standout take on the folk/pop genre, offering a perfect mix of heartfelt lyrics and polished production. Whether youโre a fan of folk-pop or just appreciate great songwriting, this song is sure to leave a lasting impression.
Ouch My Spleen โ โBurnout”
This track is an absolute powerhouse. The kicks are pure chaosโin the best wayโhitting with a raw, furious energy that tears through the mix with a brutal, lo-fi edge. Paired with the fuzzed-out bass and smashed, overdriven drums, the production feels like a relentless sonic assault that grabs your attention and doesnโt let go.
What makes it even cooler is the contrast created by the vocals. The chill, almost ethereal delivery, drenched in effects, floats above the track, softening the intensity just enough to keep things balanced. Itโs a perfect juxtaposition that gives the song a dynamic edge, making it as hypnotic as it is explosive. Truly a standout track.
Solarrio and Holland Izz โ โNLFโ
Solarrio has done it again with another absolute banger. This track is dripping with quirky, nerdy funk, full of playful grooves and eccentric charm. But what really sets it apart is the guest feature, which brings a smooth, swaggy funk-pop energy that elevates the whole vibe. Itโs a perfect fusion of styles, delivering the best of both worlds.
The track is funky, itโs fresh, and itโs impossible not to move to. Solarrio continues to push boundaries, and weโre here for every second of it.
Electric Temple – “Big Black Hole”
This track brings the heavy in all the right ways. The guitars are massiveโthick, crunchy, and dripping with vintage metal vibes that harken back to the glory days of ’70s and ’80s rock. Theyโre not just loud; theyโre warm and beefy, delivering a powerful riff and groove that feel timeless yet fresh. The bass holds it all together with a rich, full-bodied tone that perfectly complements the guitar work.
The vocals, though, are the real icing on the cakeโepic, soaring, and commanding in a way that instantly grabs your attention. This feels like a modern reimagining of everything that made classic rock and metal so electrifying. Itโs nostalgic without being dated, and it hits that perfect balance between raw energy and polished musicianship. A total powerhouse track.
