With so much music in the Provo music scene, it’s easy to get sucked in and start listening to music in a bubble. It’s always great to see what awaits you in the broader world of sonic textures, and to find new recommendations that can inspire you to make music differently than you did before.
Here are five songs from indie artists across the country. Hopefully something here can help spark some new inspiration for you.
Chris Youmans – “Summer Love”
Wow—this song is truly something special. The vocals are absolutely stunning, with a tone that’s both powerful and emotionally rich. From the very beginning, it pulls you in, but it’s the layered backing vocals that elevate the whole experience, adding depth and warmth in all the right places.
The final stretch of the song, especially from 2:15 to the end, is pure magic. It gave me chills—an emotional build that’s subtle yet incredibly moving. There’s a real sense of artistry here, and it’s impossible not to be drawn in by it. Consider me a fan—this is a beautiful piece of work.
Leopold Nunan – “5 METERS”
This track blew me away. The vocal work here is outstanding and it captivates from the very beginning! I absolutely loved the passion in his voice. And the opening line, “Last night I went to the movies alone” really hit home. That’s what I do when I’m lonely, and I’ve never heard it put in song form before. I absolutely loved this.
The Swift Kicks Verano – “The Window (Redrum)”
This track is an absolute vibe from the jump. Kicking things off with a sample from The Shining and a gruff, laid-back vocal delivery, it immediately sets a moody, cinematic tone that pulls you in. That opening moment feels like Silversun Pickups covering a Ken Carson track—an unexpected but seriously cool blend of sounds.
What really makes this song shine is the artist’s versatility. The switch between tight rap flows and a catchy, pop-leaning vocal hook is seamless, showcasing both range and confidence. It’s genre-bending in the best way and packed with personality. This one deserves a wider audience—it’s bold, creative, and unlike anything else out right now.
Mansoor– “Let’s Rise”
This song is seriously cool! A refreshing blend of sounds that feels both modern and globally inspired. The way Mansoor seamlessly wove together different cultural influences into one cohesive track was genuinely impressive. It’s a testament to his creativity and musical awareness. Combining Eastern Spirituality and Western music was amazing!
Beyond the fusion of styles, it’s also just incredibly catchy. The rhythm, the hooks, the overall vibe. It all comes together in a way that’s easy to vibe with but still feels unique. A standout track that shows real range and artistry.
Monotronic – “Looking Away”
This is a great track. The vocals were a standout—unique, captivating, and full of character. They brought a sense of emotion and edge that perfectly complemented the song’s overall vibe.
The blend of alternative and electronic elements was spot-on, creating a sound that felt fresh and dynamic without ever losing its cohesion. It’s a seamless fusion that keeps things interesting from start to finish. Truly amazing work!
