Utah native and Arizona-based indie folk musician Ben Reneer stopped by the Provo Music Magazine offices to perform some of his latest songs. Ben is known for his personal and thoughtful lyrics, cinematic sound – and a deep love of almond butter.
Raised in Utah and now based in Phoenix, AZ, Ben blends early influences like Peter Gabriel and Coldplay with the poetic stylings of Donovan Woods and Gregory Alan Isakov. His latest full-length album, The Cosmos, is a melodramatic break-up record that explores the tension between the transcendent and the everyday in love — where the person we cherish becomes our entire universe.
A former industrial designer, Ben brings a technical edge to his creative process, which has earned him placements on shows like Shameless and The Good Doctor. His 12-track album, released October 25, 2024, is just the beginning of what’s to come.
The performance was recorded live in the cozy house portion of June Audio in downtown Provo. Credit for the mix and master goes to Mason Winter, with the video captured by Zach Collier.
This isn’t just a session — it’s a movement. Provo Music Magazine’s Acoustic Sessions are more than performances; they’re part of a growing mission to fuel Utah’s music economy. Every stream directly supports the artists, audio engineers, and local media who keep this vibrant scene alive. Royalties are shared equally, ensuring everyone involved gets their fair cut.
This week’s session is brought to you by Java Junkie — a local favorite on Center Street. Serving up rich, locally roasted Caffe Ibis Coffee, tasty bites, and live music on the weekends, it’s the perfect spot to plug into the soul of Provo.
