Utah indie folk artist Ben Reneer came by the Provo Music Magazine offices to perform songs from The Cosmos, his latest full-length album. Ben is known for his deeply thoughtful lyricism and cinematic sound and is incredibly fun to work with.

Raised in Utah and now based in Phoenix, AZ, Ben takes nods from Peter Gabriel and Coldplay, as well as Donovan Woods and Gregory Alan Isakov. The Cosmos explores the tension between the transcendent and the everyday in love – where the person we cherish becomes our entire universe – as viewed through the lens of heartache.

With background in industrial design, Ben brings a technical edge to his creative process and the way he conducts himself in the industry. His attention to detail and smart business sense has earned him placements on shows like Shameless and The Good Doctor. He is currently releasing singles in anticipation of his next record.

This particular performance was recorded live upstairs in the house at June Audio. June Audio sits in the heart of downtown Provo and is part of the storied 200 Block, where Velour Live Music Gallery is also located. Mason Winter engineered, mixed, and mastered the session, with the video captured by Zach Collier.

The Provo Music Magazine Acoustic Sessions are part of a growing mission to fuel Utah’s music economy. Every stream directly supports the artists, audio engineers, and local journalists who keep this vibrant scene alive. Royalties are shared equally between those three parties, ensuring everyone involved gets their fair cut.
