Westward The Tide Releases Single Ahead of New Album

Westward The Tide gears up for the release of their brand new EP

By Richard Provost

A week ago today, Westward The Tide released the single, “Wildlife” in anticipation of their forthcoming EP, Microphone Heart – due out April 1st, 2016. The band has had a busy and exciting year. They played Rooftop Concert Series in August of 2015, and their show with Brumby and The National Parks last month was the best selling show in Utah leading up to their sold out performance at Velour Live Music Gallery. An encore show was immediately scheduled for the following week.

The new single is a taste of what fans will experience on the upcoming EP. “It’s basically a complete 180 from Sorry Soul,” lead vocalist Jack Larsen told Provo Music Magazine. “This past year has been so ridiculous. All of the fun and excitement we’ve been having from Rooftop to playing sold out shows with our friends has been a blast. I think it has a lot to do with the feeling of our new music. We are in a very exciting and happy time in our lives and we wanted that to translate through our songs. We also have a high energy live show and we really wanted this CD to showcase that. Sorry Soul was black and white, but Microphone Heart is in screaming color.”

Recorded at June Audio, Microphone Heart is actually part one of a full-length album. Westward The Tide will celebrate the release of part one with a release show at Velour Live Music Gallery on April 1st. “This EP is so visual. Our live shows will really reflect the feeling and color of the music,” says Larsen. “Our fans and newcomers will get a really exciting experience at our upcoming shows. We cannot wait to show everyone what we’ve been working on.”

Before the release of the new EP, you can hear Westward The Tide’s new material on March 4th, 2016 at at the X96 Showcase, which will be held at Club 50 West in Salt Lake City. The show will also feature RKDN and Brogan Kelby. Tickets are $5 at the door. Make sure to like Westward The Tide on Facebook. You can listen to “Wildlife” below!

They were named Salt Lake City Weekly’s “Band of the Year” in 2014. They landed a spot as the opening act for OK Go at The Complex in Salt Lake City a year later, and sold out two nights at Velour Live Music Gallery earlier this year. On April 1st, 2016, they released their latest EP, Microphone Heart (read more about it here). […]
