With so much music in the Provo music scene, it’s easy to get sucked in and start listening to music in a bubble. It’s always great to see what awaits you in the broader world of sonic textures, and to find new recommendations that can inspire you to make music differently than you did before.
And holy smokes, do I have a track for you today. I’d like to introduce to you MATISSE, an artist who hails from Grand Rapids, Michigan. She takes inspiration from Norwegian and British artists like London Grammar and AURORA, and has collaborated with indie electronic artists like Neil Nines.
I’m a huge fan of her vocals and her lush, spacious indie folk arrangement. The strings that enter the track 50 seconds in are tasteful and well arranged. Indie folk of this nature is super popular in Utah, and she’d fit really well on a bill with artists from our scene like NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest winner Little Moon, Jane Beeson, and Mia Hicken of the band Drusky.
You should definitely check her out. Make sure to follow MATISSE on Instagram. You can hear her new single “The Vine” below.
