With so much music in the Provo music scene, it’s easy to get sucked in and start listening to music in a bubble. It’s always great to see what awaits you in the broader world of sonic textures, and to find new recommendations that can inspire you to make music differently than you did before.
Today’s Non-Utah Indies pick is RIGHT up our alley. “If We Grew Old” by Nashville-based songwriter Casey Frazier provides an amazing, subdued sound with dusty textures, romantic strings, and a phenomenal vocal performance.
Frazier grew up in Colorado before moving to Nashville. Those in the Utah music scene will recognize the influence of the Rocky Mountains on Casey’s music. He’s got the Dusty Deseret sound – but with a little more country twang. He feels like Joshua James, Jordan Moyes, and Harpers – but with the agrarian charm and heart-wrenching string arrangements of Gregory Alan Isakov (also a Colorado native).
This song was first released in 2013 on Frazier’s album Regal. Despite being over a decade old now, it has a timeless beauty that’s worth discovering today – and rediscovering again and again.
