Spring has finally arrived, and with it come flowers, (theoretically) warmer weather, music festivals, and the latest print edition of Provo Music Magazine. Who could imagine a better time of year?
In the Spring 2025 edition, we’ve collected together some of the highlights from the last few months of local music, bringing together the work of 12 different writers and photographers from here in the community, all wrapped up in a beautiful ‘zine printed by the one and only Hudson Printing Company. Our cover story this time features husband and wife duo LaFrantz as they recount their journey from Provo all-stars to LA rock bottom — and then their rise back to the top as they found success as songwriters, both individually and together. Find out about how they found their way by relentlessly pursuing their dreams, even when it felt a bit like delusion at times.
In addition to our cover story, we also have reviews of some of the hottest albums in the scene right now, a look into Bryn Ripley’s mission to make jazz into a more female-inclusive space, a chat with Provo’s own “family of bands” The Astles, and a recap on Velour’s Winter 2024 Battle of the Bands. There’re so many cool stories happening all around us, and we feel privileged to bring even these few to you.
As always, you can pick up a copy of the Spring 2025 edition of Provo Music Magazine for free here soon at any of the following locations: The Boardwalk, Velour Live Music Gallery, Java Junkie, Provo’s Vintage Groove, 3hive Record Lounge, Bill Harris Music, June Audio, and many many other shops along Center Street and University Avenue in Provo, at Provo Towne Centre, in The Shops at Riverwoods, along Main Streets in both Springville and Spanish Fork, and at University Place in Orem. Our heartfelt thanks to all of these local businesses for helping us get the word out about all the amazing local creatives!
If you’d rather have the magazine delivered to your door, we’ve got options for that too! You can take your chances that one of the bands participating in our Work for Music program will drop a copy at your doorstep (very special thanks to Michael Barrow & the Tourists, Joey Bradin, CAYSN, and Hollow Hill for their help!), or you can become a subscriber to get the magazine mailed directly to you. Your subscriptions help us continue to employ and support local creatives of all sorts — photographers, journalists, musicians, and more!
Another round of thanks belongs to our sponsors for this issue: Grandpa’s Family Dental, Bluerock Medical, Sodalicious, Java Junkie, Kyle McCann Music, and the Provo Farmers Market. These companies’ support of our publication is invaluable to helping us bring local music news to the masses.
So what are you waiting for? Go get yourself a copy! Go see a show! Get out there and find all the goodness this scene has to offer! We promise you won’t be disappointed by what you’ll find. In the meantime, check out “RATTLESNAKE” from Spring 2025 cover feature, LaFrantz!
